About

Welcome to Rioden Mizarius‘ home on the World Wide Web (and I mean that in a totally natural, spider web kind of way).

Rioden Mizarius is a 3.5e Dungeons and Dragons elf in the Five Towers Campaign Setting, a homebrew world. The gaming takes place in a university in Malaysia, with student players in an organisation called CARE, originally known as DICE.

As of July 20, 2007, he is a level 7 character.

At level 20, his planned build is Wizard 3, Druid 3, Mystic Theurge 4 (DMG), Arcane Hierophant 10 (Races of the Wild). He is basically a spellcaster who maintains both nature-based spells and arcane spells, although he sees himself more as a druid than a wizard.

The player for this character is Wilz.

Description

The one defining feature for Rioden is his dark red hair with streaks of orange, which he loathes. A color which isn’t typical among elves, he has been called many names in his life, one of which is ‘autumn’, a name he has decided is too feminine, but is unfortunately saddled with. In fact, the color of his hair matches the color of falling leaves in autumn so well, if he lies down in a heap of leaves in autumn, his hair would blend in perfectly. Family members and close friends still regularly call him by that name. That partly accounts for the the reason why he keeps his hair short and cropped, although more recently it is more a matter of habit, having accepted the nickname. The origin of the color of his hair is something which he once spent a great deal of time searching for.

He is typically seen wearing a green robe with a quarterstaff and longbow swung across his back, a wooden shield strapped against his backpack, and a longsword hanging from his belt.

Rioden is tall for an elf, thinner than is typical and carries himself with a relaxed and friendly gait. From a distance he gives the appearance of a typical elf – graceful and aloof with an air of pride about him. However, once interaction begins, he begins to demonstrate a sense of exaggerated friendliness, overstated curiosity and an atypical brashness in action, quite unlike an elf. Those who are close to him have noted that he is an elf in appearance, but more of a human in action. (Read history for his motivations to behave so.) The two opposites in his personality gives pause to some who interact with him, however they quickly learn that despite being a little odd, he is a fun-loving and friendly character to be with. He also have a fondness of making jokes, from subtle elven ones, to the more blunt forms of humor of less refined races. He is often more successful at the former than the latter.

Although not always so, Rioden now has an open outlook on life, and is at heart an explorer and a lifelong student. He has a burning curiosity quite unlike that of an elf. Instead of the typical long view of most elves that a long lifespan and the experience that comes with it would bring most knowledge and wisdom to them eventually, Rioden pursues knowledge and wisdom as a principle, and is aghast at the complacency of his race. He sees a long life as a gift and an opportunity, not something to be taken for granted and to be squandered.

(In fact, from his knowledge of the planes and the afterlife, he often considers the idea of a long life to be rather dumb. Considering the evidence that an afterlife is a certainty, afterlife continues for a very long time after the Material Plane, regardless of one’s race. In his opinion, elves end up getting stuck on the Material Plane for longer than other races, complacent and content with their existence while other mortals join their Gods in their home planes, experiencing fantastical worlds of magic and wonder. As a result, he feels that he needs to make up for future lost time.)

Although a great lover of nature and life in general, he believes that the majority of druids are narrow-minded and short-sighted in believing that their respective groves are the center of the world and deserve protection over all else. He still considers his brothers and sisters with much fondness, although he himself prefers to see the bigger picture. However, he would not hesitate to serve should the need arises.

At time of writing…

Level 7

Rioden is an initiate of the Emerald Circle, a diverse, 9 member group of Arcane Hierophants who maintains a citadel in the Elore Woodlands. Although not yet a full member, his mentor, Aramus the Dark has already taught him many of the ways of the Arcane Hierophant. “You may not have mastered all the skills, but you have displayed much dedication and are a quick learner. Now if only you could overcome your disgust for the hide armor. Once you master arcane spellcasting while wearing it, you will find it invaluable in place of the Mage Armor spell.”

Since he is not yet a full member of the Circle, he does not know the location of the citadel although he has spent several years there. Powerful wards obscure all paths within the woods to the citadel. For when he ventures out on his own, Aramus taught him signals he must create in certain locations in the forest, upon which a member of the Circle, usually Aramus himself, will come and escort him blindfolded to the citadel.

The Emerald Circle is a known and established group of Arcane Hierophants, who are thought of as druids by the elven magic community, and treated like wizards by the druid community. However, they make no effort to advertise themselves, and dabble in local and regional affairs only if circumstances require it.

His traveling companions currently include:

  • Ashyra - Elf Druid
  • Daquj - Dwarf Barbarian
  • Hawkins - Human Fighter
  • Pazzik Stumbleduck – Gnome Wizard/Thief
  • Telemnar Amras – Elf Ranger/Fighter (who’s a 6′ tall freak of nature. LOL)
